Madinet Habu Temples

Madinet Habu is a complex of temples situated around 5 k.m to the west of the river Nile in Luxor.

The name Madinet Habu or (city of habu) as it's called now in Arabic may be derived from Amehotep son Hapu the famous architect of the 18th dynasty since his funeral temple exists in the immediate vicinity.

The main temple in Madinet Habu belongs to king Ramses III which is in good state preservation and the colored paintings still exist on its walls.

King Ramsses III ruled Egypt about 30 years during the 20th dynasty around 1187 b.c  and considered by many historians as the last powerful king in the ancient Egyptian times. He fought against the Libyans and the Mediterranean sea people and recorded his victories over them on the wide  walls of this temple.

After you cross the first gigantic entrance gate which called (Magdol) in your way to the temple of Ramses III you will find the Chapel of Queen Hatshepsut to the right hand side. While to the left, you will visit the votive chapels of the 25th and 26th princesses.

Valley of the Nobles

This place is not as famous as Valley of the Kings and other sightseeing in Luxor, but it's really worth a visit.

In the Valley of the Nobles you will visit some tombs belonging to the high officials and the noblemen during the New Kingdom period of the ancient Egyptian times.

Some tombs contain perfect colored scenes for the daily lives for their owners , The most recomanded tombs are :

* The tomb of Ramose  :

Ramose was the governor of Luxor during the reign of king Amenhotep III and his son Akhenaton, it's an amazing tomb because it is one of few monuments from the time of transition between two cults, the old one of believing in many gods and the monotheism which founded by king Akhenaton so the paintings and the reliefs show the scenes in two different styles from the reigns of both kings..

Some paintings depicting the funeral of Ramose and some others showing his support to the new born religion of king Akhenaton.

This tomb never finished probably because he left Luxor and went to the new capital of his king Akhenaton and was buried there

* The tomb of sennofr :

Sennofr was the overseer of the Garden of Amon during the times of Amenhotep II.

The paintings which covers the ceiling are fascinating and showing grapes  while the other vivid colored paintings depict senfore and his female relatives like his wife and daughters.

* The tomb of Rekmire:

He was a vizier under the king Tutmosis III and Amenhotep II. This tomb is one of the most preserved tombs in this area.

There are so many paintings showing him receiving the gifts from the foreign countries like the panther and giraffe from Nubia and an elephant and chariots from Syria. There are also some beautiful scenes for his hunting trips.

Deir el Madina

It's the ancient village of the workers who achieved the tombs of the valley of the kings, it'sconsidered the oldest settlement in the history of the mankind. The community contained about 70 houses with a narrow road running in the middle of the village. Among the inhabitants of this village were the stone cutters, carpenters, painters, draftsmen, law representatives and policemen.

Next to the houses of the workers, a beautiful temple was dedicated to the Goddess Hathor and goddess Ma'at. The workers cut their tombs in the hill beside which srunding their village. There are two tombs open for public.

Your visit to Deir El Medina ends your tour and you will be taken back to your hotel or anywhere else in Luxor as you like.
