Here is what’s included & what's not included in the program of this tour
Our tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Aswan to board a private motorboat. You will sail toward the Aga Khan Mausoleum and view the desert hillsides of the West Bank, known as Qubbet el-Hawa, situated just north of Kitchener's Island, opposite Aswan. Qubbet el-Hawa derives its name from the domed shrine of a local Muslim holy man, but archaeologically, it is usually understood as referring to the site of the tombs of the officials lined up on artificial terraces below the summit of the Nile bank upon which the Islamic tomb stands.
Climb the ancient stone stairs (or walk the sloped path) up the high cliffs. These rock-cut Nobles' tombs from the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms of ancient Egypt belonged to local governors, priests, and African explorers. The tombs included in the visit feature the famous tomb of Harkhuf, as well as others belonging to Sabni, Ishemai, and Heqaib. Most follow a simple layout, with an entrance hall, a pillared room, and a corridor leading to the burial chamber. These tombs provide vivid wall paintings that show detailed scenes of the daily lives of officials.
The tombs are decorated with, hieroglyphic biographies and inscriptions telling of the noblemen's journeys into Africa. The climb is rewarded with amazing views of Aswan, the Nile River and the surrounding landscape.
After finishing and heading back, you will cruise across to Kitchener’s Island, which was gifted to Lord Horatio Kitchener in the 1890s. The island features a beautiful botanical garden spanning 16.8 acres of rare and perennial plants, royal palm trees, sandalwood, jackfruit, and hibiscus.
Finally, we will transfer you back to your Nile Cruise or hotel in Aswan.
